Janu Vasti or Janu Basti is a specialized ayurvedic treatment to relieve the knee pain caused due to arthritis by strengthening the knee muscles and joints. The treatment is performed by pouring & pooling medicated oils for a fixed duration of time in a compartment constructed around the knee joints using wet flour of black gram. Treatment Method: The person is made to lie on his back on the massage table (Droni). Reservoir made of black gram dough is built upon the Knee Joint. The dough ring should be such that it covers the knee joint. After ensuring the ring is leakproof, the lukewarm medicated oil or herbal decoction is slowly poured into it. When that cools down, it is squeezed out with cotton gauze and the procedure is repeated. At the end of the procedure, the ring is removed and the affected area may be gently massaged The person is then made to take rest for a short while. Cervical spondylosis is caused by degeneration of bones, discs – cartilage cushion between the neck bones and joints of the neck. This condition is usually found in middle aged people and elderly. It is a wear and tear disease. Neck pain, stiffness, headache, numbness, etc. This is one of the diseases wherein Ayurvedic treatment has very good promise. In Ayurveda, a condition called Greeva graham is explained. – a condition with cardinal feature of stiffness of the neck is explained and it exactly suits with Cervical spondyslosis. Elakizhi, also called Patra Pinda Sweda, is a form of sweat therapy used to provide relief from pain and rejuvenate and strengthen the soft tissues, joints, and muscles in the body. It is prepared from herbal ingredients such as the leaves of medicinal plants to induce sweating. Patra Pinda Sweda (Elakizhi) refers to the treatment that involves applying heat to the body parts using a bolus prepared from the leaves of medicinal plants.
